Bank statement PDF to CSV for QuickBooks or Xero

Accounting software imports a CSV (or a bank file such as OFX or QBO), not a PDF, so you first turn the statement into a CSV with one row per transaction. Satr does that in your browser, and you then map the columns on the QuickBooks or Xero import screen; it is not an official integration with either product.

Start with your bank's own export if it has one

If your online banking offers CSV, OFX or QBO downloads, those are usually cleaner than a converted PDF because the bank already stores them as structured data. A PDF conversion is the fallback for older statements or for banks that only give PDFs.

What the CSV needs to look like

Both products ask for a simple table: a date, a description and an amount for each line. QuickBooks Online accepts either a single signed Amount column or separate Debit and Credit columns, and Xero needs at least a date and an amount. Date formats must match your account's regional settings. Check the current import help of your product for the exact layout, because it changes over time.

Where Satr fits

Satr reads the PDF on your device, finds the transaction rows, and lets you set each column as Date, Description, Debit, Credit, Amount or Ignore. The CSV is UTF-8, and you can choose a comma or a semicolon separator. If your accounting product wants one signed Amount column and your statement has Debit and Credit, combine them in a spreadsheet first (for example credit minus debit).

Honest limits

Satr works with text PDFs downloaded from internet or mobile banking. It does not read scans or photos (no OCR), it uses a generic parser with no per-bank templates so you may need to set the column types yourself, and it is not affiliated with any bank. Check the result against your original statement before you use it.

Satr does not log in to QuickBooks or Xero and does not push data to them. You upload the finished CSV yourself.

Questions

Can QuickBooks or Xero import a PDF bank statement directly?

In the standard import screens, no: they take files such as CSV, OFX or QBO. Some products may offer their own PDF conversion, so check yours first.

Is Satr an official QuickBooks or Xero integration?

No. Satr is independent. It produces a CSV or XLSX file that you map and import yourself.

Which columns should I keep?

Date, description and amount (or debit and credit). Set the balance and any reference column to Ignore if the import screen does not need them.

Why did my dates import wrongly?

The date format in the file must match the format your accounting account expects. Compare a few rows in the preview with the original statement, then fix the format in a spreadsheet before importing.

Is my statement uploaded?

No. The PDF is read in your browser with pdf.js and is not uploaded. Open the Network tab of your browser to check.
