Convert a credit card statement PDF to CSV

Open the statement in Satr, set the date, description and amount columns, and download a CSV that a budgeting app or spreadsheet can import. It uses the same generic parser as for bank accounts and is not tested with every card issuer, so check the preview carefully.

Why you need a CSV step

Budgeting tools such as YNAB take CSV, OFX or QIF files, not PDFs. If your card issuer only offers a PDF, converting it is the way in.

What to watch on card statements

Card statements often have a single signed amount, a posting date and a transaction date, and payments shown as negatives or credits. Mark the column you want as the date and set the other to Ignore. Check that purchases and payments have the signs your budgeting app expects.

Limits

Satr works with text PDFs downloaded from internet or mobile banking. It does not read scans or photos (no OCR), it uses a generic parser with no per-bank templates so you may need to set the column types yourself, and it is not affiliated with any bank. Check the result against your original statement before you use it.

Questions

Does it work with every credit card issuer?

It uses a generic text parser, so it works when the PDF has selectable text with dated transaction lines, but we have not tested every issuer.

Can I import the CSV into YNAB?

YNAB imports CSV files with its own column rules, so map the columns in its import screen. Satr is not affiliated with YNAB.

What if there are two dates per line?

Mark the one you want as Date and set the other to Ignore or Text.
