Working with your Nedbank PDF
Customers of Nedbank in South Africa typically get their bank statement as a PDF, and that PDF is what Satr reads.
Nedbank runs its head office from Sandton. The bank's web address is nedbank.co.za.
Where to find the PDF at Nedbank
Sign in to Nedbank online banking or the app and look for the bank statement, e-statement or account activity section. Pick the account and the period, and choose PDF as the format. Menu names differ by bank and change over time, so use the PDF option your own screen offers.
PDF types Satr can read
PDF statements generated by a bank system contain selectable text. Those are the files Satr is built for.
A scan or a photo of a paper statement has no text layer, and Satr has no OCR, so it cannot read it. Download the PDF again from online banking instead.
Password-protected PDFs open after you type the password in your browser. Neither the password nor the file goes to a server.
Formats used in South Africa statements
In South Africa, amounts are normally written in ZAR (R); the decimal mark is a dot (.) and the thousands separator is a space. Dates commonly look like YYYY/MM/DD or DD/MM/YYYY.
A space is often used between thousands, and a narrow or non-breaking space can look like two columns in a PDF; check the amount column in the preview. Banks in the same country do not all use the same number format, so check the number format option in the preview.
We checked sample values in these formats against the shipped parser and they were read correctly; you stay in control, because the number format can be changed in the preview.
Importing into accounting software
Accounting packages used in South Africa, such as Sage, Xero, and QuickBooks, let you import spreadsheet files. Export from Satr as XLSX or CSV and match the columns there; Satr is not connected to those programs.
Honest status for Nedbank
Nedbank is not in our list of individually tested banks.
Satr reads text-based PDFs with a generic parser. So far we have tested these layouts: 5 synthetic sample statements of fictional banks (Turkish, English, Arabic, Persian).
Satr is an independent tool and is not affiliated with Nedbank. The bank is named only so you know which PDF this page is about.
Your Nedbank PDF stays on your device
Satr reads the file locally. There is no upload, no account, and nothing from the statement is stored on a server. You can confirm it with your browser's developer tools.
