Download your bank statement from Capitec Bank as a PDF
In the Capitec Bank app or website, open the account you need and look for a statement or transaction history option; if it can be saved as PDF, save it. We do not describe exact menus, because they change; search the help section of Capitec Bank for “bank statement” if you cannot find it.
What the PDF must contain
A PDF that you download from online banking normally has a real text layer, and Satr can read its rows. You can test this by trying to select text in the PDF.
A scan or a photo of a paper statement has no text layer, and Satr has no OCR, so it cannot read it. Download the PDF again from online banking instead.
Password-protected PDFs open after you type the password in your browser. Neither the password nor the file goes to a server.
South Africa: numbers, dates and currency
Statements in South Africa usually show amounts in ZAR (R) with a dot (.) as the decimal mark and a space as the thousands separator. You will usually see dates written as YYYY/MM/DD or DD/MM/YYYY.
A space is often used between thousands, and a narrow or non-breaking space can look like two columns in a PDF; check the amount column in the preview. Banks in the same country do not all use the same number format, so check the number format option in the preview.
Satr recognised these number and date patterns in our own checks, and you can still change the number format and column roles before exporting.
Using the Excel file in Sage, Xero, and QuickBooks
If you use Sage, Xero, and QuickBooks, open the exported XLSX or CSV and match its columns in the program's import screen. There is no connection between Satr and these tools.
Tested or not?
Capitec Bank is not in our list of individually tested banks.
Satr reads text-based PDFs with a generic parser. So far we have tested these layouts: 5 synthetic sample statements of fictional banks (Turkish, English, Arabic, Persian).
Satr is not affiliated with Capitec Bank. Capitec Bank is named only to describe the PDF you bring.
Your Capitec Bank PDF stays on your device
Satr reads the file locally. There is no upload, no account, and nothing from the statement is stored on a server. You can confirm it with your browser's developer tools.
