What to expect from your African Bank statement
If you bank with African Bank in South Africa, the PDF bank statement is the file you start from; Satr turns its transaction table into a spreadsheet.
Its website domain is africanbank.co.za.
How to get the PDF bank statement from African Bank
Ask African Bank online banking for the bank statement of the account and period you need and download it as a PDF. If a PDF is not offered, the branch or the bank's support can usually provide one.
Which PDFs work
When the bank generates the PDF itself, the text inside is real text, not a picture. Satr reads that text layer and rebuilds the rows from it.
A PDF made by scanning paper, or a screenshot saved as PDF, holds pictures only. Satr cannot read pictures, so get the original PDF from online banking.
If the PDF is password-protected, Satr asks for the password and opens it locally; the password is not sent anywhere.
Reading South Africa amounts and dates
In South Africa, amounts are normally written in ZAR (R); the decimal mark is a dot (.) and the thousands separator is a space. Dates commonly look like YYYY/MM/DD or DD/MM/YYYY.
A space is often used between thousands, and a narrow or non-breaking space can look like two columns in a PDF; check the amount column in the preview. Banks in the same country do not all use the same number format, so check the number format option in the preview.
We checked sample values in these formats against the shipped parser and they were read correctly; you stay in control, because the number format can be changed in the preview.
Importing into accounting software
Many people in South Africa work with Sage, Xero, and QuickBooks. You can map the Excel or CSV columns in the import screen of those programs; Satr has no integration with them and does not claim any.
Status of African Bank in Satr
African Bank has not been individually tested with Satr.
Satr reads text-based PDFs with a generic parser. So far we have tested these layouts: 5 synthetic sample statements of fictional banks (Turkish, English, Arabic, Persian).
Satr is not affiliated with African Bank and is not endorsed by it.
Privacy: nothing is uploaded
Nothing in your statement is uploaded. Satr runs inside your browser tab, so the PDF, the rows and the exported file stay on your device.
