Where to find the PDF at Royal Bank of Canada

PDF types Satr can read

PDF statements generated by a bank system contain selectable text. Those are the files Satr is built for.

A scan or a photo of a paper statement has no text layer, and Satr has no OCR, so it cannot read it. Download the PDF again from online banking instead.

Password-protected PDFs open after you type the password in your browser. Neither the password nor the file goes to a server.

Formats used in Canada statements

Statements in Canada usually show amounts in CAD ($) with a dot (.) as the decimal mark and a comma (,) as the thousands separator. Dates commonly look like YYYY-MM-DD or MM/DD/YYYY.

Banks in the same country do not all use the same number format, so check the number format option in the preview. Some statements put the month first (MM/DD/YYYY); check the date order in the preview when the day is 12 or lower.

Satr recognised these number and date patterns in our own checks, and you can still change the number format and column roles before exporting.

Importing into accounting software

If you use QuickBooks, Sage 50, and Xero, open the exported XLSX or CSV and match its columns in the program's import screen. There is no connection between Satr and these tools.
