Working with your Westpac PDF

If you bank with Westpac in Australia, the PDF bank statement is the file you start from; Satr turns its transaction table into a spreadsheet.

Westpac is listed as a privately owned bank. Its headquarters are in Sydney. The bank's web address is westpac.com.au. The source lists 1817 as its founding year.

Where to find the PDF at Westpac

Sign in to Westpac online banking or the app and look for the bank statement, e-statement or account activity section. Pick the account and the period, and choose PDF as the format. Menu names differ by bank and change over time, so use the PDF option your own screen offers.

PDF types Satr can read

When the bank generates the PDF itself, the text inside is real text, not a picture. Satr reads that text layer and rebuilds the rows from it.

A PDF made by scanning paper, or a screenshot saved as PDF, holds pictures only. Satr cannot read pictures, so get the original PDF from online banking.

Locked with a password? Type it into Satr when asked. The password is used on your device to unlock the file and goes nowhere else.

Formats used in Australia statements

In Australia, amounts are normally written in AUD ($); the decimal mark is a dot (.) and the thousands separator is a comma (,). You will usually see dates written as DD/MM/YYYY or DD Mon YYYY.

Dates with month names, such as 01-Apr-2025, are recognised in English; month names in other languages may need a manual check.

In our checks Satr read these patterns correctly; the mapper still lets you switch the number format if a file differs.

Importing into accounting software

Many people in Australia work with Xero, MYOB, and QuickBooks. You can map the Excel or CSV columns in the import screen of those programs; Satr has no integration with them and does not claim any.

Questions

Can I convert my Westpac statement PDF to Excel?

Download the statement as a PDF, open it in Satr and map the columns. The status section on this page says what has and has not been tested.

Is my Westpac statement uploaded anywhere?

The file stays on your device. You can watch the Network tab of your browser to see that no upload happens.

Is Satr connected to Westpac?

No. Satr is an independent tool and is not affiliated with Westpac.

Will a dot (.) and a comma (,) in my Westpac amounts be read correctly?

Satr reads the separators in the file and shows the result in the preview. For Australia, a dot (.) for decimals and a comma (,) for thousands is typical, but each file is checked on its own.
