How to get the PDF bank statement from Bank of Montreal
Ask Bank of Montreal online banking for the bank statement of the account and period you need and download it as a PDF. If a PDF is not offered, the branch or the bank's support can usually provide one.
Which PDFs work
PDF statements generated by a bank system contain selectable text. Those are the files Satr is built for.
A PDF made by scanning paper, or a screenshot saved as PDF, holds pictures only. Satr cannot read pictures, so get the original PDF from online banking.
Locked with a password? Type it into Satr when asked. The password is used on your device to unlock the file and goes nowhere else.
Reading Canada amounts and dates
Amounts in Canada statements are typically shown in CAD ($), using a dot (.) for decimals and a comma (,) to separate thousands. Dates commonly look like YYYY-MM-DD or MM/DD/YYYY.
Banks in the same country do not all use the same number format, so check the number format option in the preview. Some statements put the month first (MM/DD/YYYY); check the date order in the preview when the day is 12 or lower.
Satr recognised these number and date patterns in our own checks, and you can still change the number format and column roles before exporting.
Importing into accounting software
Accounting packages used in Canada, such as QuickBooks, Sage 50, and Xero, let you import spreadsheet files. Export from Satr as XLSX or CSV and match the columns there; Satr is not connected to those programs.
