Where to find the PDF at HSBC UK

Sign in to HSBC UK online banking or the app and look for the bank statement, e-statement or account activity section. Pick the account and the period, and choose PDF as the format. Menu names differ by bank and change over time, so use the PDF option your own screen offers.

PDF types Satr can read

A PDF that you download from online banking normally has a real text layer, and Satr can read its rows. You can test this by trying to select text in the PDF.

A PDF made by scanning paper, or a screenshot saved as PDF, holds pictures only. Satr cannot read pictures, so get the original PDF from online banking.

Password-protected PDFs open after you type the password in your browser. Neither the password nor the file goes to a server.

Formats used in United Kingdom statements

Statements in United Kingdom usually show amounts in GBP (£) with a dot (.) as the decimal mark and a comma (,) as the thousands separator. You will usually see dates written as DD/MM/YYYY or DD Mon YYYY.

Dates with month names, such as 01-Apr-2025, are recognised in English; month names in other languages may need a manual check.

In our checks Satr read these patterns correctly; the mapper still lets you switch the number format if a file differs.

Importing into accounting software

Accounting packages used in United Kingdom, such as Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, and FreeAgent, let you import spreadsheet files. Export from Satr as XLSX or CSV and match the columns there; Satr is not connected to those programs.
