About Starling Bank statements

If you bank with Starling Bank in United Kingdom, the PDF bank statement is the file you start from; Satr turns its transaction table into a spreadsheet.

Starling Bank is classed as a digital bank, so expect a statement generated by the app. Its headquarters are in London. You can find it online at starlingbank.com. Its founding year in our data is 2014.

Getting the PDF out of Starling Bank

Open the bank statement area of Starling Bank online banking or its app, select the account and the date range, then save or export the result as PDF. Where exactly this sits depends on the bank's current design, so follow the labels on your own screen.

Text PDFs, scans and password-protected files

A PDF that you download from online banking normally has a real text layer, and Satr can read its rows. You can test this by trying to select text in the PDF.

A scan or a photo of a paper statement has no text layer, and Satr has no OCR, so it cannot read it. Download the PDF again from online banking instead.

Locked with a password? Type it into Satr when asked. The password is used on your device to unlock the file and goes nowhere else.

How United Kingdom amounts and dates are handled

In United Kingdom, amounts are normally written in GBP (£); the decimal mark is a dot (.) and the thousands separator is a comma (,). You will usually see dates written as DD/MM/YYYY or DD Mon YYYY.

Dates with month names, such as 01-Apr-2025, are recognised in English; month names in other languages may need a manual check.

In our checks Satr read these patterns correctly; the mapper still lets you switch the number format if a file differs.

Using the Excel file in Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, and FreeAgent

Accounting packages used in United Kingdom, such as Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, and FreeAgent, let you import spreadsheet files. Export from Satr as XLSX or CSV and match the columns there; Satr is not connected to those programs.
